Crete: A little Greece in the Aegean Sea...

Where the Aegean Sea touches the Libyan Sea...

The inhabitants will welcome you with a broad smile, they will insist on treating you something from their homemade goodies, maybe a little raki to cool you down and the traditional dakos with tomato. Ask them to sing you their famous mantinades about  the island of Psiloritis which so much loves bravery. And when the time of departure comes, they wish you deeply in their soul "So long" ...
A magical place in beauty and heroic in character, with some of the most captivating beaches in Greece, mountainous landscapes that will take your breath away and the incredible combination of the Aegean northern part with the 'Libyan' south side, the island offers you the most complete holiday experience in Greece.

Beaches of 5 stars!

Only in Crete you will encounter landscapes with the Caribbean standards, with the corresponding facilities in accommodation and organization. Elafonisi is considered a miracle of nature with white gold sand, the clear, turquoise waters, and exotic beauty. Balos, of similar charm, offers great views from above to the dauntless  crossing the persistent dirt road, Falasarna, within the 10 best beaches in the Mediterranean, Matala, with caves which excited the hippies of the 70s, Malia of the frenzy fun, Vai with its impressive palm tree forest ...! The list does not certainly end here. Hundreds of small and large beaches await you in the four counties. The Golden and Agia Fotia in the prefecture of Lasithi, Plakias, Preveli and Schinaria in Rethymnon, the Hersonissos in Heraklion  ... all the beaches that charm your senses from the first look!

Castles, forts, museums, churches and archaeological sites that still continue to reflect the splendor of the Minoan world. The sites of Crete confirm that it is an island rich in culture. Fortezza, Frangokastello, the Kazarma fortress and the castle Koules, although in the past were great constructions of defense and protection, today they are admired by thousands of tourists. The monasteries of Arkadi, Preveli, St. George & Toplou, are just some of the hundreds of churches that would come across on your way. The small, deserted island of Spinalonga, also known as the "island of lepers," is one of the most famous destinations in Crete. Passing by boat either from Saint Nikolaos, or from the port of Elounda, you have the opportunity to have a tour through the ruined buildings of the island, which served as Leper  Center until 1957. If,of course, you love history, you cannot miss the archaeological sites in Knossos,in Phaistos,in Zakros and Malia, where the Minoan civilization flourished and the Archaeological Museum with its collection of findings from the Minoan world. Moreover, interesting options are the museums of Contemporary, Natural History, El Greco as well as the Nikos Kazantzakis Museum.

Crete, the paradise of canyoning!

Inaccessible and impressive places, the gorges of Crete have been loved by thousands of adventurous hikers. With the most popular one is this of Samarias, followed by  the gorges of Rouvas, Zakros, Ha, Kourtaliotis, Arvis and Aradenas, which are  described as ideal choices for the fans of canyoning. It is not only the satisfaction offered by the exploration but also the unusual connection with nature that you will feel, being the "tamer" of the imposing beauty.

The Minoan civilization, the jewel of the ancient world ...

The civilization set as an example of the ancient world, was born by a people advanced for its era. The Cretans were the sea conquers in the  Aegean Sea, their love, however, for the arts, letters and religious ceremonies were evident. With action center the palaces of Knossos, King Minos, from whom he borrowed the name of the Cretan civilization, had the oversight of the whole island. Sample of the equally developed Cretan architecture with the  arts are the smaller palaces of Phaistos, Zakros and Malia, which are subject to the centre of  Knossos. A common feature of all,the impressive murals depicting moments from the daily life of the residents. Today in the respective regions you will find archaeological sites withthe ruins of the palaces. If you arrive at Knossos, you will hear the myth of the Labyrinth, which hosted the terrible Minotaur, while one of the most interesting archaeological findings comes from Phaistos , the namesake Phaistos Disk, which has not been deciphered till today!

Cretan flavors

The Cretans, having incorporated all the benefits of the Mediterranean diet in their own diet, developed a cuisine that gives priority to pure, virgin products that nature offers. The olive oil has a special place, as it is used in all the Cretan recipes. The famous local products are the Cretan gruyere, dakos, the nut of Crete, the raisins, the  honey and so many vegetables you can have in your mind, while  the recipes  you should definitely seek for are the cheese pies, the snails, boubouristi, the apaki (pork meat), the gamopilafo, the Sfakia pies and of course the antikristo or the  ofto meat, one of the oldest recipes, in which the meat is put onto the woods, just near the fire and is baked slowly for about 6 hours! The Cretan diet is the synonym of balance.
