Limassol: escape to the cosmopolitan seaside tourist centre of the South ...

Limassol is the biggest port in Cyprus. Given the constant mobility, the city evolved into a developed tourist centre, shaped in such a way so as to cover every need for accommodation, food, drink, fun. Here you will find luxury resorts and spas for relaxing moments that will be unforgettable!

The rich archaeological site of Kourion

Detail of the mosaic of the site KourionAt a distance of just a few kilometres from the village of Episkopi of Lemesos is the archeological site of Kourion. Kourion was one of the major kingdoms of Cyprus, which was founded by the Achaeans of Argos in the 13th century.  The monuments that were discovered on the Hill of Kourion after excavation are as follows: the theatre, the Roman Forum, the House of Achilles and the Gladiators (Roman houses of the 4th and 3rd century AD.), the Church of the Episcopal Precinct, the sanctuary of Apollo Hylates, the Stadium, the House of Eustolios, the Minor Basilica and the Coastal Basilica.

Memories of medieval times! The Cyprus Medieval Museum

The medieval castle of Limassol is said to be where Richard the Lionheart married Berengaria, later Queen of England. The current Castle is an Ottoman construction of 1590, built on the exact spot which was the earlier version of this medieval castle. Inside,it houses the Cyprus Medieval Museum, which exhibits objects of everyday life, weapons, armour, equipment and photographic material relating to the period between the 3rd and 18th century AD. The Medieval Castle is located in the Centre of the old town.

Omodos: A small model village!

Narrow alley in OmodosThe Troodos mountain range is famous, not only because it is the major mountain range of Cyprus but also because it is home to a few small, picturesque villages. One of the prettiest is  Omodos, a traditional village with cobbled streets, tavernas, small, tourist shops and the Church of the Holy Cross in the central square. It is just 30 minutes from Limassol and is worth a visit, especially if you need a few moments of peace, away from the noise of the city.

Kolossi Castle: Excursion to the fertile valleyKolossi castle

Approximately 10 km west of Limassol, in the fertile valley of the river Kouris, where sugar cane and vast vineyards flourish, lies the castle of Kolossi, which passed from the Dominion of the Knights and Templars. The first building of the area dates back to the 13th century, while the medieval, square building with three floors that succeeded it was completed in 1454.  Until today it has been kept in extremely good condition!

Beaches

Olympion coast BeachGovernor's Beach is large, organized, sandy and has been awarded a blue flag. It is located at a distance of 20 km from Limassol and the characteristic that sets it apart from the rest of the coast is the combination of white rocks and blue waters. The beach is quite popular, family friendly and organized for those who want to combine their swim with a good meal! Amathus, on the other hand, is a purely tourist beach with a beach bar, sun loungers, loud music and vitality. It is not recommend for those wanting isolation, if however you want to be entertained, Amathus is the place for you! Another interesting option is the quiet beach of Kourion, a short distance from the archaeological site in the area, overlooking the ancient theatre of Kourion.  Windsurfers and kite surfers also love these shores.

Gastronomy

sweet Commandaria wine  One of the oldest wines in the world, the famous sweet commandaria is the favorite wine of the inhabitants of Cyprus, exclusive to Cyprus; it is produced in the region of Limassol.  In the villages of Troodos small traditional restaurants lure you into culinary sins! Try their local, fresh meat, combined with simple, fresh ingredients from the Cypriot soil. If you come across small producers, do not hesitate to obtain three typically Cypriot products: halloumi the most popular Cypriot cheese, smoked “lountza” (cured pork) and carob, from the carob tree that grows exclusively in the Mediterranean.
